Andalucía
Acoge is one of the pioneering Spanish institutions working with immigrants. From the very beginning, our activities have been focused on a direct work with the immigrant groups.
Recently, however, we have experienced a considerable growth not only in the number of people that work with and support us, but also the volume of our work, including the number of projects and programs realised. This evolution has given our activities a more comprehensive character, adapted to the wide range of needs and challenges with presents the immigration.
The main activities realised by Andalucía Acoge belong to the following areas: Social, Promotion and Training.
Social Area, the main objective of the social department is to improve the immigrant's situation regarding his/her basic needs, and comprises the following programs:
- Welcome Service: In charge of the very first care for immigrants who are, if necessary, redirected to other programs.
- Housing Support: which aims at promoting access to housing and the maintenance of a decent home
- Judicial Guidance: focuses on the regularisation of the legal situation of the immigrants and assists them in all other legal questions.
- Health Service: that's where the awareness raising campaigns are put into practice.
- Care for Prisoners: in charge of providing temporary housing for immigrant prisoners with a suspended sentence, and organising individual or collective visits to closed centres.
- Care for Unaccompanied Minors: This service offers welcome facilities for unaccompanied immigrant minors.
Within the promotional area, which aims at empowering the immigrants in order to make their integration easier, we have the following programs:
- Cultural and Educational Promotion of Immigrant Children and Adolescents: in charge of interventions in schools, language classes and cultural classes (of the country of origin) and extra-scholar support for immigrant pupils.
- Socio-Labour Guidance: aims at improving the labour situation of the immigrants through training and support for self-employment initiatives.
- Cultural Promotion of Adults: basically in charge of language classes and cultural seminars (of the society of reception).
Y dentro del
Formation and Intercultural Coexistence, the following programs are part of the Training and Intercultural Coexistence department, which pretends to enhance mutual knowledge and exchanges between cultures.
- Training: in charge of training for volunteers and employees working with immigrants.
- Public Awareness Raising: its aim is to raise awareness among the population on the situation of the immigrants, to simultaneously promote values, denounce unacceptable realities and enhance an attitude of knowledge, respect and cultural exchange within the society of reception.
- Intercultural Coexistence: aims at creating places and occasions which favour mutual exchange and knowledge between different cultures.
- Documentation and Information Centre: in charge of collecting, elaborating and diffusing materials for support and awareness raising.
