Identity

Recognition of the Immigrant

Spain is a receiving country for immigrants, and will become even more so in the near future. Immigration is increasing and will become a permanent phenomenon. That is why it is necessary to recognise, politically and socially, the immigrants as an integral component of our society. This implies, among others, the following:

  • To achieve their rights of citizenship, i.e., that immigrant workers have the same rights and duties as all other Spanish citizens, without social or, of course, legal discriminations.
  • To enhance at all levels, the insertion and integration process, i.e. the acknowledgement of the right to be different, and not of different rights. This needs a mutual social effort (of immigrants and Spanish citizens) in order to unite without confusing, and to distinguish without separating.
  • To encourage a positive intercultural coexistence, i.e. by enabling the transformation of mutual differences into mutual enlargement in terms of human relations, which lead to a pluralistic society, respecting everyone's rights, and open for diverse cultural contributions and identities.

Independence

Andalucía Acoge develops its work in an independent and autonomous manner regarding the political, religious or administrative level. We maintain a good relationship with the public authorities, as long as it enhances the defence of the immigrants' rights. However, we conceive our work as a temporary task, until the public authorities - and that is what we always call for - assume their obligations in this field. AA is not a social service company, but a group of people focused on solidarity and transformation, who, despite their independence, are not neutral.

Statements concerning the economic and social system

Andalucía Acoge takes a dissident and critical position vis-à-vis the neoliberal system, because it is this system and its globalisation which structurally cause the current migration flows. We opt for radical social changes, by advocating for social justice and by adopting a position of protest, proposition and challenge. Given that social marginalisation is the result of an unjust social and economic organisation; AA, together with many other institutions and associations, encourages sensitivity and solidarity within society, in order to fight against the symptoms of exclusion suffered by immigrants and many other marginalised social groups.
